About the role
The main purpose of this role is to safely transport passengers with varying mobilities to and from treatment centres/schools or other venues as directed. This role could include manual handling of passengers, the care of passengers and assisting passengers, as well as driving. The role also involves providing home to school transport across West Yorkshire for children with special educational needs and vulnerable adults.
Some passengers may need to be wheeled in a chair and escorted to and from the vehicle or treatment centre.
The safe transportation of these passengers is paramount to the role, this includes securing passengers and wheelchairs in the vehicles. You will be required to drive a variety of vehicles including cars and ambulances and other vehicles.
As this position involves a regulated activity, it will require an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service Check. The disclosure will, where appropriate to the role, include information against the Independent Safeguarding Authority barred lists for working with children, adults or both.
Where a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is required for the post, the cost of this will be covered by Easy Travel Leeds Ltd. Upon receipt of your DBS, you will then be required to sign up to the DBS online update service.
You will predominantly be based in Leeds, Dewsbury, Huddersfield and Halifax.
About us
Easy Travel have been established since 2001. Through prudent management Easy Travel have continued to expand and currently operate a fleet of 80 vehicles and employ over 90 staff. Easy Travel believe in good quality training and are proud of the fact that many of their drivers have NVQ Level 2 Qualifications in Road Passenger Transport. All drivers and passenger assistants hold an Accessible MiDAS or PATs Certificate and have attended training in Safeguarding and Emergency First Aid. Easy Travel employ a dedicated Learning & Development Manager who is able to develop training services in house and also to the wider community.
Job Description/Responsibilities
• Carry out the daily required vehicle and equipment checks.
• Be prepared to work flexibly to ensure patients are moved in a timely, safe and
dignified manner.
• Work within Contract Specific Quality Standards and ensure a high level of customer
care (these standards are available at the office)
• Ensure effective communication with the office by telephone or electronic means.
• Transfer patients using equipment and skills specific to individual needs.
• Provide effective care to patients, appropriate to their requirements using available
equipment.
• Transport patients safely and considerately, this will include pre-planned and ad hoc
journeys.
• Ensure patients have a safe, smooth journey, complying with all relevant traffic
legislation and driving with consideration for other road users.
• Maintain full and accurate records and reports, including daily vehicle checks,
timesheets and incident reports. These reports may be both paper and electronic.
• Ensure vehicles and equipment are kept in states of cleanliness and readiness.
• Undertake required training to maintain acceptable standards of quality and care.
• Maintain a current valid driving licence.
• Adhere to instructions and policies, operational instructions, protocols and
procedures and other verbal and written instructions.
• Perform other tasks in keeping with the post as required by your Line Manager and
Directors.
